Penicillium Notatum Allergy

Penicillium chrysogenum

One of the three most common indoor airborne fungi. Found mainly indoors, Penicillium chrysogenum is used to produce blue cheese, commercially as enzymes, and in the drug industry for the production of compounds against bacteria, fungi or viruses as well as anti-cancer compounds.

Where is Mold (P. chryosogen) found?

This mold is found in temperate and subtropical regions all over the world and in every region of the United States.

In tropical and other hot, humid regions, cladosporium herbarum spore counts can be 100 times the pollen counts.

Try to avoid areas with high allergen/spore counts and use a mask when outside if possible.   • Avoid areas with high spore counts

  • Conduct indoor fungi presence tests regularly

  • Limit the use of humidifiers or cool mist

  • Frequently clean carpets and air purifiers

  • Conduct regular maintenance of ventilation systems

  • Use Benadryl, Claritin, or Zyrtec as needed

  • Treat with allergen immunotherapy
